Job Description

The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care is looking to appoint two Non-Executive Directors (NEDs) to the Board of NHS Resolution (NHSR). One of the NEDs will be responsible for Chairing the NHS Resolution Audit and Risk Committee.

NHSR manages negligence and other claims against the NHS in England. It aims to resolve concerns fairly, share learning for improvement and preserve resources for patient care.

As a NED of NHSR,€¯you will be responsible for the good governance of the organisation, including the expenditure of considerable sums of public money. You will ensure that NHSR promotes the values of the NHS and places a high priority upon helping the NHS improve the safety of patients. You will play a key role in ensuring that the organisation meets the needs of both primary and secondary care providers in England and is focused upon providing excellent services and good value for money including cost effective resolution services. As a board member you will provide appropriate challenge, scrutiny and support at Board level ensuring that the organisation learns from things which go wrong in the NHS and shares that learning, to improve the safety and standard of care.

Applicants must demonstrate a career track record of achievement, including at a significant senior level in either the private or public sector. Possessing excellent communication skills, sound judgement, and the ability to gain the confidence of senior stakeholders; and ability to work as part of a team and operate effectively on the board of a national public body. In addition, you need the ability to analyse complex and sometimes conflicting data and to draw balanced conclusions from information presented to you.

Applicants should also have experience in either one of the following criteria:

 senior finance experience, most likely with a professional background in accountancy or a related discipline, with experience of governance, risk management, assurance, and the work of audit and risk committees.   

 senior experience in change management, running a large complex organisation with a good understanding of effective operational and technological delivery.

Remuneration will be £7.883 per annum, with the ARC Chair receiving £13,137 per annum  for a time commitment of two to three days per month.  The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care determines the length of appointment, which may be for up to a maximum of 3 years.
