Job Description

About us

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management to gathering and analysing environmental data and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated, and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

About the role

As a Senior Adviser for Natural England, you’ll lead on developing procurement solutions for a specific customer. It’s a rewarding role with fantastic opportunities to secure positive environmental outcomes and further our vital work. You’ll support everyone from project managers to Defra policy teams and even the Cabinet office. And you could contribute to anything from sustainable farming to greener fisheries, wellbeing initiatives or building resilient landscapes.

We’re also undergoing an exciting period of change as we work with Defra to increase our delegation and adopt new technologies and procedures to improve our catalogue use and requests for quotation. You can play an active role in developing new catalogues and frameworks to suit our operational delivery, all while you build relationships with partners and suppliers and feed into our investment decisions.

About you

We’re looking for someone experienced in public sector procurement, who is qualified to MCIPS Level 6 or equivalent. Your experience should cover building relationships with complex customers, customer mapping, working within policies and standards, identifying efficiency gains, and managing poor supplier performance.

But just as much, we’re looking for passionate, highly collaborative candidates with a good understanding of strategy, analysis, and the environment. You should be able to work with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, so communication skills are very important.

About our benefits

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities and you can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.

If you’re inspired to protect and enhance England’s wildlife and want to work for a leading science-led organisation, find out more and apply.
