The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is an Executive Agency of the Ministry of Defence.
Established in 2018, the vision and primary purpose of the SDA is to lead a high-performing, industrial enterprise to deliver the United Kingdom\'s submarine capability safely and securely, and more effectively and cost-efficiently every year. We support the MOD in maintaining the UK\'s Continuous At Sea Deterrent by safely delivering available, capable and reliable in-service submarines and systems. Sustaining that critical capability is the most significant and wide-ranging of all the major defence tasks.
We were established in April 2018 for the procurement, in-service support and disposal of the UK\'s nuclear-powered submarines, which are some of the most complex equipment in the world. We deliver capabilities to the Royal Navy that are essential to the UK\'s Continuous At Sea Deterrent. We ensure new submarines enter service while delivering value for money to the taxpayer, and that in-service boats are available to fulfil their missions reliably and safely. Our actions are vital to the Royal Navy\'s ability to meet their Defence commitments. Our vision is to lead a high-performing, industrial enterprise to deliver this capability safely and securely, and more effectively and cost-efficiently every year.
A key task of the Board has been the shaping of the SDA to deliver effectively for its customers and an essential part of this has been leading the business in the delivery of submarine programmes in what is a complex stakeholder environment. We are seeking exceptional Non-Executive Directors to join our Board, to play a key role in strengthening the SDA\'s position as a world-class delivery organisation.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced candidate with proven ability in leading organisations and supply chains through transformational change and instilling a results-focused culture. To be successful you will need to have an excellent track record in one or more areas critical to the SDA\'s success. These include delivery of high-value programmes, experience of handling complex commercial issues, engineering and maintenance support to bespoke high-hazard assets, and strategic leadership of organisational development. You will need to inspire the SDA\'s Executive Team to make the changes necessary for the future, have the personal resilience to work on very high-profile issues, and the personal integrity to deal with highly sensitive information.
You should be able to demonstrate relevant expertise and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Delivery of high-value programmes, especially large, multi-year megaprojects.
- Handling complex procurement and commercial issues.
- Engineering and maintenance support to bespoke high-hazard assets of an appropriate scale in a relevant industry sector.
- Strategic leadership of organisational development in a complex environment.
- Finance and audit, in a relevant context, with the capability to chair an audit committee.
