Economic Analyst

Job Overview

We are recruiting an Economic Analyst to join our newly created Economics Unit, based within the Public Health and Healthcare function within the BMA’s communications and policy directorate. The unit will work closely with policy and communications staff and the BMA`s democratic structures to undertake econo mic research and quantitative data analysis; gather evidence; develop policy solutions, advice and guidance and deliver policy change.

In this role you will:

* support the economic unit to deliver its work programme which includes health funding and staffing

* be supporting the NHS to deal with the pressures caused by Covid-19, building future resilience beyond the pandemic

* be addressing health inequalities and a variety of other high-profile healthcare delivery and public health issues

* provide research support to the team in developing costed policy proposals and analysing health funding requirements

* conduct data analysis with the support of the Senior Economic Analyst

* run surveys with the support of the Senior Research Analyst, and produce succinct and acce ssible written material summarizing your res! earch.

* be providing expert advice and guidance to a variety of audiences including senior staff, the media office, chief officers, BMA committees and members.

To succeed in this role you must:

* have strong quantitative research skills or be able to demonstrate an ability to work with data

* have a good knowledge and understanding of public and fiscal policy issues

* be able to write clearly and succinctly

* be proactive and able to develop effective working relationships with members and colleagues from across the BMA

* be comfortable working flexibly across a range of projects

* experience of working on healthcare delivery and population health issues is not essential, however you must be keen to learn and develop exp ertise in the team’s policy areas
