The Civil Nuclear Constabulary is a unique infrastructure police service with over 1,600 highly trained police officers and staff across the UK.  As a specialist armed police service, we are responsible for providing armed police protection to licenced civil nuclear facilities in the UK and civil nuclear material in transit in the UK and internationally. Counter terrorism is at the heart of what we do. We are committed to continuously improving the way we work, both in partnership with stakeholders and in our enabling functions. This ensures we can deliver our core Mission to protect civil nuclear sites and nuclear material and build a resilient, inclusive and forward-thinking constabulary.

As our Deputy Chief Constable, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring the CNC is prepared to meet the evolving threats the Constabulary faces. The Deputy Chief Constable supports the Chief Constable to lead the Constabulary and is responsible for developing and maintaining the capacity and capability of the CNC to deliver our Mission.

You will develop operational policy and practice to national standards; maintain operational interoperability with Home Office police forces and other agencies; recruit, retain and develop a capable workforce with the right values, leadership and skills; and deputise for the Chief Constable where appropriate. You will also play a key role in delivering our vision, strategy and culture, working in partnership with our stakeholders and across the organisation to maintain public, stakeholder and organisational confidence.

You will bring experience of a senior leadership role with wide ranging operational law enforcement experience, a successful track record of providing innovative leadership as part of a senior executive team. Safety and security are paramount to delivering our Mission, and so experience of working in an environment of this nature is critical.

The Constabulary is working closely with our sponsoring government department to explore widening our operational remit to include other areas of armed protective security within the critical national infrastructure of the UK. This will provide opportunities for development of the Constabulary in which you will have a significant impact on.
