Delivering support with a difference. That’s when it hits home.

We are looking for a team of Support Workers to join us at our supported living service, Nicholas House in St Albans.  We support our wonderful customers who are all young men with various levels of learning disabilities.

You’ll join our team supporting one of customers who is 23 and has Autism, a learning disability and ADHD.  He has a lively and playful character, with very high energy and is looking for an active team who can support him with his wide range of interests and hobbies and help him develop the skills to be as enabled and independent as possible. His interests include walking, football, footgolf, gym, gardening, dancing, singing, using his ipad and listening to music.  He’s also passionate about horses, trains, and vehicles, so lots of interesting activities for you to share. His team need to be firm and be able to maintain strong boundaries, ensuring that his activities are balanced so that he is not over stimulated.  You’ll support him in the reduction of challenging behaviours and help promote self-fulfilment.

Our building has been completely renovated with eight self-contained flats bespoke to each customer with a big garden (which has lots of space to grow plants or veg if he fancies that!). It’s on a lovely quiet road with lots of shops, great bus routes and a train station nearby, perfect for the commute or a day out.

About our team and the role

You’ll be working alongside Sally our Registered Manager, Becky our Positive Behavioural Support Practitioner, your Team Leader and our Support Workers.  You’ll support our customer with all aspects of his day to day living, working in a person-centred way so that they can enjoy the best quality of life and live as independently as possible.  You’ll provide personal care in a strengths-based way, as well as use creative solutions, and assistive technology where available.

This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who wants to expand their current knowledge or gain more experience, who has a passion for supporting our customer and truly wants to make a difference to his life.  We will provide you with lots of support and opportunities for professional development and career progression.

About you

Our ideal person is energetic, engaging, lively with a kind and caring nature. We are looking for someone that is passionate and motivated to help our customer with all aspects of his day to day living, including personal care and to help him reach his full potential.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is looking to expand their current knowledge and develop their skills.  Previous relevant experience is important (either in a similar role or caring for a family member, child or neighbour for example).  A Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent is preferred, but not essential as we’ll fund and support you to gain the qualification if you don’t already have it. A current full driving license is also advantageous as it will enable you to drive our customer in their own mobility car around the community.

We also require that you have a valid Enhanced Check under the Disclosure and Barring Service which we will pay for.

Working hours

Our customer needs support 24/7 to meet his needs, so you’ll take your turn working on a rota which will include working days, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and waking nights. As we’re asking you to be flexible, we’ll also give you the time back that you need to spend time doing the things that matter to you!

What’s on offer?

We’ll nurture your talent; help you understand how things work here and you’ll have a fantastic induction with ongoing learning and support!

25 days annual leave (on top of bank holidays), rising a day a year up to 30 days. Fancy a little bit more? Then why not buy up to five days extra leave?

Access to over 800 high street discounts, interest free loans, discounted breakdown cover and payment plans to purchase the latest IT gadgets.
