Job Description

Museum of London Docklands

We are here to enrich the understanding and appreciation of London and all its people – past, present, future

Our aim is to create London’s shared place in the middle of it all – where all the city’s stories cross and collide – delivered through a new museum in West Smithfield and a revitalised museum in Docklands.

When the Museum of London closes at London Wall we intend to focus resource, effort and energies on creating the most impactful museum we can at Docklands, showing the doors remain open at the Museum of London. Preparation for this journey, and activity across the capital, must begin now.

This is a significant leadership role which sits at the heart of a vibrant and very diverse community at the heart of London’s Docklands. This role offers a great opportunity to shape the future of the Museum and lead a team of passionate and dedicated professionals in one of the most forward-thinking museums in the UK and beyond.

We are looking for a commercially focused leader to bring their experience, creativity, insights and expertise to help to maximise the potential of one of the significant museums in London’s cultural landscape. Are you ready to help us put on a great show? You will be adept at engaging with a wide variety of people, starting with our key audience, but you will be able to navigate and influence our key stakeholders in local government and business, as well as attract philanthropic funders who share our passion.

At the Museum of London we won’t call Culture from a high tower, and we don’t gloss over the realities of our city. This includes London’s links to the trans-Atlantic slave trade, which is one of the most important and impactful aspects of Museum of London Docklands. We go out and we stay true to London – in all its grit and glitter.

This is a real opportunity to lead the way in reshaping our future and be at the heart of the greatest cultural dialogue of our times.

Closing date is Friday 29th October.
