Job Description

Remote working or office based – our Office address is 165 Queen’s Gate, London SW7 5HD. If office based, we have an agile working policy enabling people to work at another U.K. location up to 4 days/week (this is a trial policy and subject to review).

Requests for flexible working, and/or secondments will be considered.

We are recruiting for an additional Grants Manager to deliver The Ideas Fund, which was launched in January 2021 and looks to support communities in four locations of the UK (Hull, Oldham, North West Northern Ireland and the Highlands & Islands of Scotland) to build relationships with researchers and test out ideas related to mental wellbeing. This is part of the British Science Association’s mission to transform the diversity and inclusivity of science - we want more people, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in science, to feel that science is relevant to their lives.

The Grants Manager will have lead responsibility for our work in two of the four geographical locations, building strong relationships with our local Development Co-ordinators, and working with the rest of the Grants Team to contribute to the successful delivery of the programme. This is a varied role working with a mix of stakeholders, including some groups that are receiving grant funding for the first time.

The role would suit someone who has experience of grant making and is comfortable working with an evolving programme. An understanding of the benefits and risks involved in delivering innovative grant-making approaches is important, as is attention to detail. Partnership working and strong project management skills are also key to the role.

The BSA is an equal opportunities employer and a champion of equality, diversity and inclusion.  We aim to recruit the person most suited to the job and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and from different sectors, and from people who've gained their skills outside formal employment.  We would particularly welcome applications from people and communities who are currently under-represented in our staff team, which includes people from minority ethnic groups, disabled people and men.

Closing date – 9am Monday 18th October 2021
