The British Science Association's mission is to transform the diversity and inclusivity of science. We want more people, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in science, to feel that science is relevant to their lives.  Since 2015, the BSA has led a series of science engagement programmes to support community organisations who work with groups that are underserved and underrepresented in science.

The Community Engagement Officer will provide support in delivering, growing and diversifying these programmes for community groups (locally-led groups and organisations who provide opportunities for people who live in a particular neighbourhood, or share a particular characteristic or experience). The Officer will administer grants schemes for community groups and support the delivery of our Community Leaders and Buddies programmes and other community engagement programmes.

The role would suit someone with experience of supporting community engagement programmes. Knowledge of science engagement and community engagement theory or practice is desirable.

The BSA is an equal opportunities employer and a champion of equality, diversity and inclusion.  We aim to recruit the person most suited to the job and welcome applications from candidates of all backgrounds and from different sectors, and from people who've gained their skills outside formal employment.  We would particularly welcome applications from people and communities who are currently under-represented in our staff team, which includes people from minority ethnic groups, disabled people and men.
