Join us and make a difference at the UK’s leading heart & chest hospital

Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital has an international reputation as a leading specialist provider of cardiothoracic services, and we lead the way in providing high quality patient and family centred services, research and  innovation.  We provide specialist services in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, respiratory medicine including adult cystic fibrosis and diagnostic imaging, both in the hospital and out in the community.

We serve a catchment area of 2.8 million people, spanning Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man, and increasingly we receive referrals from outside these areas for some highly specialised services.  With two consecutive ‘Outstanding’ ratings from the Care Quality Commission we aim to deliver healthcare and research of the highest quality, backed by a culture which encourages quality improvement and innovation.

Our vision is to be the best – leading and delivering outstanding heart and chest care and research and we are now looking to appoint a new Chair to take over the leadership of the Board, when our existing Chair steps down after 12 years in post in early 2022. You will need significant board-level experience, gained from a large or complex organisation whether in the private, public or voluntary sectors.  It is essential that as Chair you share our values and the ethos of the NHS.  You will be familiar with the role of Chair within a Board context and be experienced in providing strategic oversight and challenge to a highly performing Board of Directors. Working closely with our Chief Executive to represent the Trust at all levels across the Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care System as well as across the region and nationally, you will bring strong interpersonal and communication skills.

We warmly encourage applications from people of all backgrounds to improve the diversity of our board and provide a fresh and different perspective to our strategic decision making.

If you are committed to putting patients, families, and our people at the heart of decision making and to excellence, openness and transparency then we are keen to hear from you.
