Job Description

Role: Chief Executive, University of Central Lancashire Students’ Union (UCLan SU)

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per year

Location: Preston, open to flexible working requests.

UCLan SU is here to deliver a top-class Students’ Union experience for all our members.

As a Students’ Union we exist to represent and support students studying at the University of Central Lancashire. We are separate from the University, which allows us to represent students and offer free independent advice and support when needed. As a democratically-led organisation, our students help shape our activities in support of members and what we say to the University.

2020 was not a normal year for UCLan SU–or for anyone. It was, however, an important year for us.

Our 2016-2020 strategy had run its course and we wanted to draw breath and decide what, as an organisation, we should focus on the next three years: 2021–2024. We involved over 1,000 of our members and designed a new plan based on three core themes: Student Voice, Student Life and Student Community.

We are looking for a Chief Executive to join us at this exciting time, we want you to deliver our strategy to its full potential, and to think about how we can showcase the impact we achieve during this time.

Over the course of our next strategy, we will also need to review our physical offer and explore new ways to complement our existing income streams.

We are seeking an inclusive leader with a track record of making services, projects and workplaces more accessible. It will also be important that our CEO has a collaborative stylex, experience of leading change and evidence of successfully empowering teams.

At this moment in time our staff team is not representative of the incredibly vibrant ethnic diversity of our students and the wider community in Preston, we therefore especially encourage applications from candidates who are Black, Asian or from any other underrepresented ethnic community.

Our recruitment website contains a copy of our new flexible working practices. We can be flexible in our approach, work patterns and assessments, so if there are any barriers that may prevent you from applying, please don’t hesitate to get in touch so that we can talk these through.

Closing date: 9am, Monday 11th October 2021
