Job Description

Forever radical, always welcoming, constantly creative. That’s Lambeth, and now is the time to join us. We face unprecedented challenges as we tackle the implications of the pandemic on our communities, but we are optimistic for the future and remain ambitious for our residents and businesses.

The borough’s capacity for growth and renewal, our diverse and dynamic population and our partnerships with world-class organisations make us well placed to maximise opportunities for all our communities.

Our ambitious new Leader and the Chief Executive are clear that the new Director of Law and Governance will support delivery of services right across the Council. Working closely with corporate colleagues, you will play a significant role supporting important and sensitive agendas for us and our communities, including the Council’s response to historical child abuse and the redress scheme for victims and survivors. Other key agendas for the Council include our regeneration and growth schemes which must benefit everybody.

Your determination to work corporately will stand-out, as will your interest in working with other local authorities to develop new relationships. At Lambeth we believe that working collaboratively to share legal expertise across the Capital is an exciting opportunity that could bring together the best  legal talent across London.

You will of course provide strong leadership to the department and ensure that your service is proactive and agile in providing high quality advice to colleagues across the Council. As our Monitoring Officer, your ability to work closely with our Leader and Cabinet and gain their trust and confidence will be key as will your ability to support the London Elections next May.

Based in Brixton, this exciting yet challenging role will require creativity, ambition and a determination to make a tangible difference.
