Transport is at the heart of the Governments plans for an infrastructure revolution. The Department for Transport is leading on the development and delivery of many of the largest and most high-profile capital projects in Government including HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and an ambitious programme of national road improvements across the country.
As Director General Rail Strategy and Services, you will be the Governments lead official for the management and oversight of the rail sector and services, setting the future strategic direction for the rail industry at a critical time. Leading a team of 500 you will also be responsible for the delivery of the Governments commitments to reform and modernisation of the railway, and oversee the Departments management of passenger rail services: contracts with a value of c.Â£10bn a year. Fundamental to this will be developing plans for post-COVID recovery, and the delivery and management of post-COVID contracts with train operating companies.
Leading the Departments strategic relationship with Network Rail and other delivery bodies you will play a key role in shaping the future of the railway in the UK and in levelling up the economy to deliver jobs and growth across the country.
