Job Description

Based at our European Headquarters just south of Cambridge on Granta Park we require a Senior Scientist to join our Technology Development department as a Materials / Polymer Chemist in a permanent role.

As part of the Materials and Applied Surface Science group, you will play an integral role in developing new sequencing and array technologies and related applications. As the company moves fast so does the technology we use, the candidate will have to be adaptable to a wide range of techniques and methods used in life-sciences.

Role Requirements:

Proven track record in rational, hypothesis based experimental design, execution, and data analysis. Experienced use of data and risk to formulate clear decision criteria to influence technical direction at a project level.

Good communication and presentation skills.

Collaborative, open and self-aware, team player; able to rapidly integrate into global cross functional teams to effectively support progress towards group and platform goals.

Available to travel to the US up to 1 month per year if needed.

Ability to work on novel materials design, supramolecular/polymer chemistry and bio-conjugation.

Understanding of nanofabrication technologies, surface properties, and materials chemistry.

Modification of glass/ metal/ polymer surfaces for functionalization.

Experience with electrochemistry, membrane materials and membrane formation and stabilisation techniques.

Experience with a wide range standard analytical techniques and surface characterisation techniques.

Experience with lipid and/or polymeric membrane to support membrane protein-based biosensors would be highly advantageous

Understanding of microfluidics, fluorescence based assays, and fundamentals of DNA (bio)chemistry

Education and Experience:

First degree in Chemistry, Electrochemistry, or Materials Science.

PhD with minimum 3 years industrial or academic experience in Materials or Polymer Chemistry/ Surface Chemistry/ Nanofabrication.
