Job Description

At Illumina, we develop innovative technologies that enable the study of genetic variation and function, allowing our customers to perform studies that were unimaginable just a few years ago. 


Illumina has an opportunity to join a dynamic, fast-paced team developing Next Generation Sequencing products which are used at the forefront of research into disease association and personalised medicine. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary and international team as part of the Core Consumables Development group. 


Job duties may include, but are not limited to:


Development and optimisation of Next Generation Sequencing products and methodologies
Operation of Next Generation Sequencing instruments
Use and development of non-sequencing based activity assays and analytical techniques to assess reagent performance
Experiment planning, execution, troubleshooting, data analysis and interpretation
Analysis of complex/large data sets
Effective presentation and communication of results to colleagues
Collaboration with other teams and functions globally to meet company goals and satisfy customer needs


Education:


Degree in a biological science is required


Experience and Skills:


Laboratory experience in an industrial setting is desirable, though applications from recent graduates are welcome
A working knowledge of, or background in, Next Generation Sequencing would be advantageous, but is not essential
An ability to troubleshoot molecular biology and biochemistry issues
Understanding of nucleic acid biochemistry and the application of molecular biology techniques.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to document procedures and results
Maintain strong working relationships within a multi-disciplinary environment
 An ability to work both independently and collaboratively is essential
Detail-oriented and organised, with an ability to implement protocols
An ability to be flexible in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
Proficiency in standard computer skills, PowerPoint and Excel or other statistical packages


This role would suit a recent graduate with good molecular biology and/or biochemistry skills, who is looking for an opportunity to work with the market leader in Next Generation Sequencing technology.
