Job Description

NHS Scotland Chief People Officer and Director for Health Workforce

We are seeking an experienced HR professional to take up this high profile leadership role at the heart of the Scottish Government. You will be responsible at national level for all matters that relate to the NHS workforce and leadership development for the NHS. You will support achievement of the best health and care outcomes for people by providing human resources leadership and support for the health workforce in Scotland and ensuring that our health service has an effective leadership and a talent management programme to deliver tomorrow’s leaders. You will also have responsibilities in relation to NHS Scotland Corporate Governance and Corporate Communications.

You will be accountable to the Director General Health and Social Care and Chief Executive NHS Scotland and as a member of the Health and Social Care Management Board, will participate fully in the corporate management of the Scottish Government Health Directorates. You will also have a clear responsibility, as part of that leadership team to drive forward delivery of the Scottish Government objectives for Health and Social Care services. You will provide leadership on NHS workforce and leadership issues within Scottish Government and externally, collaborating effectively with senior leaders across NHS Boards, Trade Unions, Local Government, Integrated Joint Boards and other partners to support and ensure delivery of Scottish Government priorities.  

Given the nature of this role, you must be qualified to CIPD Advanced Diploma level and be a member of CIPD – ideally at Fellow level. You should have significant HR experience in a senior leadership role. You will have also have extensive experience of large scale workforce change. 

This is a permanent and pensionable Senior Civil Service (SCS2) appointment.  If applicable, secondment from your existing employer would also be considered. Relocation expenses may be available.
