Our Service Control is staffed by Control Operators working on 4 watches providing 24 hour cover, they provide support and assistance to residents of Bedfordshire and Luton and support to operational staff.
FIREFIGHTER (CONTROL)
Fixed Term Posts (2 years with the possibility of becoming permanent)
Starting Salary £21,336 per annum
Progressing to £22,224 per annum after initial training, up to a maximum of £28,437
Based at Service Headquarters, Southfields Road, Kempston
Required to work in the Fire & Rescue Service in the Control Room. The role involves receiving and acting upon emergency calls for the assistance of the Fire & Rescue Service, directing fire appliances to incidents and supporting Fire & Rescue Service operations and administration.
We are looking for good team workers who can combine common sense with alertness, and the ability to assimilate and retain information, working with speed and accuracy, whilst keeping calm under pressure. You must be over 18 years of age, have a sound educational background with a good standard of communication skills. A high level of competence in ICT and the ability to input verbal information quickly and accurately using a keyboard is required.
Suitability will be assessed by an assessment process.
Full training in all aspects of the role will be given. If successful, you will be required to work with a small dedicated team on a 42 hour week shift rota system involving day, night and weekend working.
You will be required to wear a uniform which is provided.

The provisional dates for the assessments are the 17th and 19th September.
Interviews are provisionally planned for the 1st October.
