Job Description

Independent Office for Police Conduct Salary Range: 140,000 to 160,000k This is a unique opportunity to become the first Director General of the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) ? the new name for the reformed and reconstituted Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC). Since 2010 alongside major changes to how policing itself operates there has also been major reform to the Police Complaints & Discipline System. As part of this the IPCC has undergone a major expansion to enable it to take on significantly more independent complaints than ever before and to help it ensure that key findings are shared nationwide to help improve policing. As the organisation?s first Director General, you will lead the IOPC?s work throughout England and Wales. You will be highly influential in setting the culture and effectiveness of the re-structured organisation, to ensure that it commands public confidence. As well as directly managing the team of directors responsible for the organisation?s work, you will chair the unitary board to determine and promote the strategic aims and values of the IOPC. It is a statutory requirement that you should not have previously worked for the police or any other policing organisation. This is a demanding and high profile role which requires strong leadership skills in a complex environment with multiple and diverse stakeholders. You will be a proven change leader able to demonstrate how you have led an organisation through significant reform and transformation and worked across organisational boundaries to deliver improvements. Alongside this you will also have a professional background that will inspire confidence in your ability to lead and ensure robust independent and impartial investigations across the IOPC remit.
