1-year Peaceworker in Britain SALARY 21,370 per annum CONTRACT Fixed Term from September 2017 until August 2018 HOURS Full time ? 35 per week Do you have a life commitment to working for peace? Is this amazing opportunity for you? We?re seeking enthusiastic people who want to develop their skills, knowledge and commitment to peace through placement with a national organisation in Britain. We select the people we want, then try to match their interests and skills with opportunities offered by a range of organisations. Recent Peaceworkers have been placed with War Resisters International, Medact, Campaign Against Arms Trade and Scientists for Global Responsibility. The work will be varied and project specific. You should be able to demonstrate your passion and commitment to peace work and sympathy with the values of Quakers. You?ll be adaptable, able to work on your initiative and as part of a team. Transferable skills, like office administration and digital communication, will be an advantage. This year we are particularly interested in placing with organisations working on ? Grassroots/ community training and capacity building for action; peace-building to address the roots of conflict, including promoting community cohesion; and learning the skills to handle conflict. ? Fresh, innovative work on nuclear weapons (for example relating to the UN ban treaty). Attitudes to war, World War 1 commemoration, and conscientious objection. ? Militarism (especially in relation to schools); peace education and promoting alternative responses to violent conflict. However, we are always open to bold, confident and radical new projects, and particularly encourage placements in other parts of Britain than London. This placement includes a preparation period of 2-weeks in August. We regret that we are unable to accept applications from candidates without existing permission to work in the UK.
