Job Description

Tower Hill, London St Mungo?s is the largest homelessness charity in the UK. With a turnover of more than 85m, around 2,900 tenants, and more than 1,300 staff, we are here to end homelessness and rebuild lives. Originally set up over forty years ago, we now have more potential than ever to change more lives and influence housing and homelessness policy and services for good. Our reputation as being committed to the welfare of our clients and tenants has been hard won; yet our expertise and innovation must always be further enhanced and developed. The role of Executive Director of Finance is thus a pivotal and strategic one within St Mungo?s, and key to ensuring that the organisation can continue to enjoy a successful future. We?re looking for a talented senior finance professional to lead and develop our finance function and review our systems and processes. This is a high-profile, demanding and wide ranging role, spanning management and financial accounting, purchasing, IT and Treasury ? all in the context of a rigorously run, highly complex and growing organisation. In this pivotal role, you will be reporting to the Chief Executive and advising the Board ? including our new Chair, Robert Napier ? to develop and implement our strategic plans. You will also contribute to the leadership, strategy and direction of St Mungo?s overall as part of a team of skilled, committed and experienced professionals. We?re looking for a proven leader with the ability to think strategically and the strongest focus on quality and performance. A background in housing finance would be ideal ? particularly if you have worked in one of the larger housing organisations ? as you will need to understand the specific service and regulatory environment in which we work. You?ll be someone who can balance the internal and operational aspects of this critical role with the bigger picture and will develop productive relationships and alliances quickly. Immediately credible with internal and external stakeholders, you will have excellent judgement, a strategic outlook and the highest degree of personal integrity. You?ll be an empowering leader, adept at designing and taking people through change, as well as supporting the development of high performing teams. A professional Accounting qualification is absolutely essential.
